So I took my lady out for breakfast at a near by joint called Happy Diner this Morning.
Its your typical little cozy local breakfast restaraunt with about 6 people in there are the time, and it just so happens that we are seated next to a gentleman named Ray. Ray was in a wheel chair and I noticed he had minimal movement in his hands as well, and while signing his check with two hands, I was simply impressed by this guys attitude and smile. As I continued to watch him write the tip and total,I shouted out "Now thats SKILLZ!"...He laughed and smiled and it broke the ice. I politely asked him if I could talk to him about a few things regarding his physical state shortly into our conversation. He smiled back and said "No problem".
Naturally I was curious if it was due to an accident or if he was born that way, but alss he was so confident in telling me hes a qudrapallegic due to him diving into the ocean and hitting his head on a shallow sand bar! It was following his morning run some 18 years ago and he was an avid runner at that. He was close to the beach at the time of his jog, so he figured what better way to cool off than to jump in the ocean real quick. He booked it down into the water and dove in head first over a wave, BAM!....Numb all over.....
Ray severed his spinal cord and was laying face down in the water, he said "You know how life flashes before your eyes?...Well it did...Like polaroids..flashing like a deck of cards all clear...and then I said to myself...I'm going to die!". Ray was face down in the water and could not move, losing air quickly.
"It was only a mater of time before I blacked out and Drowned, but luckily...a wave came an tumbled me over and I was able to take 2 breaths". I said, you have got to be kidding me!...with chills running up my spine.
"eventually I was washed up on shore...and was face down in the wet sand with waves washing over me, eventually a little girl and her dad noticed and saved me before I died". As I grab my orange juice I can't believe what I am hearing!...Holy crap that is AMAZING! He can barely move, but he gets around and has moved on in life. He said to me..."Think twice about your safety if your not sure about something, don't ever discount your voice inside, and always take a minute to think about the possibilities should somehting go wrong"
-All I can say is, I was Blown Away
He Strolls off in his chair to his new condo with his wife waiting and still has a love for life!
AMAZING!
Don't Take Anything for granted..who knows when its your time!
